In The Name Of God, Our Father ...

Clericalism!

LONDON, UK

JUNE 2022

One of the most effective tricks organized religion has pulled on society is convincing us that laity is synonymous with being uneducated or unlearned. How often have we heard the phrase "Explain it to me like I'm a layperson" used to denote a lack of knowledge or expertise? Yet, the reality is that over 99% of the world is composed of unordained individuals.

Despite this fact, some members of the ordained community perpetuate this illusion. The ongoing sexual abuse scandal among priests and the recent discovery of mass graves in Canadian residential schools underscore this point. Rather than confront these issues head-on, some ordained individuals have gone to extreme lengths to protect themselves and their institutions.

This behavior is the very definition of clericalism. Through our project exploring the Roberto Calvi case and clericalism in the Catholic Church, we hope to shed light on this issue and inspire meaningful change.

In June 1982, Roberto Calvi - better known as "God's Banker" - was found hanging from Blackfriars Bridge. Investigations uncovered links between his death, the Vatican Bank, the Mafia, and a secret Masonic Lodge called Propaganda Due.

The case exposed a web of greed, corruption, exploitation, and murder that reached the highest levels of the Catholic Church. Despite the evidence, however, no one was held accountable for Calvi's death. And even today, four decades later, the Vatican continues to grapple with its own corruption scandals.

But corruption is not limited to the Vatican. It's a global problem that affects governments, businesses, and political parties around the world. The UK, Russia, and the US Republican Party are just a few examples.
